Can-Am Review: Check Your Helmet Still Fits
Can-Am is BRP's powersports brand: side-by-sides from $22,699, three-wheeled road vehicles, and electric motorcycles from $10,999. It has nothing to do with weight-loss medication and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can usefully add, and what no product page will tell you, is that a drug which can make you dizzy changes the calculation around operating a 95-horsepower machine — and that protective gear fitted to a body twenty per cent larger no longer protects you the way it did.
Our Verdict
Can-Am (BRP Inc.) · can-am.brp.com · $10,999–$37,899+
Dizziness at 60mph is a different problem than dizziness on the sofa
Dizziness and lightheadedness are recognised side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, and nausea is very common — most acutely in the days after starting or stepping up a dose. None of that is usually dangerous. It becomes dangerous when you are steering a 95-horsepower side-by-side over rough ground or riding a three-wheeler in traffic. The practical rule is simple: do not ride in the days following a dose increase if the last one made you unwell, and if you feel off before setting out, do not set out.
If you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, discuss riding with your prescriber
This is the one genuinely serious item. A GLP-1 alone seldom causes low blood sugar; combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea it can, which is why prescribers commonly reduce those doses when starting one. Hypoglycaemia degrades judgement and coordination before you reliably notice it happening, and noticing late while operating a vehicle is the hazard. Eat before you ride, carry fast-acting glucose somewhere reachable with gloves on, do not ride alone, and raise it with your prescriber as a specific question rather than a general one.
Your helmet and armour were fitted to a different body
A helmet that was snug at your old weight may now rotate on your head, and a jacket's back and shoulder armour may no longer sit over the joints it was bought to cover. Protective equipment that moves is significantly less protective. Re-check whether the helmet shifts independently of your scalp when you move your head, and check armour placement while sitting in a riding position rather than standing in a shop. This is the least glamorous paragraph in this review and probably the most valuable.
A dated sale, and published MSRPs with the caveat attached
The Factory Sales event runs until 30 September with rebates of up to $4,000 on select 2026 ATVs and side-by-sides and up to $3,500 on select on-road models. An actual end date, rather than a sale that has been ending for ten months, is worth crediting. So is the price wording: starting at $22,699 MSRP on entry package, transportation and preparation fees may vary based on selection. That tells you plainly that freight and prep are extra.
The advertised price is an opening position
Nothing here is bought online. The site offers Build & Price, Get a quote, a payment calculator, Get Loan Offers and Find a Dealer, and the real number is settled at a dealership with freight, setup, documentation, trade-in and financing all in play. Treat MSRP as the start of a negotiation, get the out-the-door figure in writing before agreeing anything, and price the finance separately from the vehicle.

Operating machinery on a GLP-1: the conversation nobody has
Patients are routinely warned about nausea and told it usually settles. They are much less often asked what they do on a Saturday. If the answer involves a machine capable of 95 horsepower, or a three-wheeled vehicle on a public road, then the ordinary side-effect profile of these medications deserves a second look — not because riding becomes unsafe, but because the moments when it might are predictable and therefore avoidable.
Dizziness and lightheadedness appear in the recognised adverse effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, and nausea and vomiting are among the most common. The pattern most people report is that symptoms cluster in the days after starting the drug and after each dose escalation, then settle. That pattern is useful: it means the higher-risk days are known in advance. Do not plan a ride into the week after a dose increase if the previous increase made you unwell, and treat feeling slightly off before you set out as a reason not to. Being sick inside a full-face helmet is its own specific hazard, and worth avoiding on those grounds alone.
The serious risk is hypoglycaemia, and it applies to a subset of readers. GLP-1 receptor agonists alone rarely drop blood sugar dangerously, because their insulin-promoting effect is glucose-dependent. Taken alongside insulin or a sulfonylurea, that changes, which is exactly why prescribers often cut those doses when adding a GLP-1. Low blood sugar impairs judgement, reaction time and coordination — and characteristically does so before the person recognises what is happening. That sequence, in a vehicle, is the actual danger in this review. If you take either of those drug classes, make riding a specific item in your next appointment: eat beforehand, keep fast-acting glucose somewhere you can reach with gloves on, tell whoever you are riding with, and do not ride alone.
Then hydration and fuel, which compound quietly. Appetite suppression reduces fluid intake as well as food; off-road riding is hot, physical work; and riding gear is built to hold heat in. Setting off under-hydrated and under-fed, on a day you did not much feel like eating, is how a pleasant afternoon becomes a bad one. Eat something before you ride whether or not you want to, carry more water than seems necessary, and plan shorter stints with more stops than you would have a year ago.
Finally the equipment, which is the point most likely to be overlooked because nothing about it feels medical. Protective gear works by staying in the right place. A helmet is sized to be snug; if you have lost a substantial amount of weight, including from your face and neck, a helmet that used to grip may now rotate, and a rotating helmet manages an impact far worse than a fitted one. Body armour in a jacket is positioned assuming a particular torso; on a smaller frame the shoulder and back plates can sit off the joints they were meant to cover. Re-test both. For the helmet, the standard check is whether it moves independently of your scalp when you turn your head hard with the strap done up. For armour, sit in your riding position and feel where the plates actually are. If either has gone loose, replace it — and do not let a $22,699 vehicle purchase crowd out a $300 helmet that fits.
The 2026 US lineup and what we could price
| Category | 2026 models listed | Price we could verify | Rebate advertised |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric motorcycles | Pulse, Origin | From $10,999 / $11,499 | Up to $3,500 on select |
| Three-wheel road | Spyder RT Sea-to-Sky, Spyder F3 Limited Special Series, Spyder F3-S | Not published on the pages we read | Up to $3,500 on select |
| Side-by-sides | Defender HD11, Maverick X3 X, Maverick R X rc | Defender HD11 from $22,699; packages listed to $37,899 | Up to $4,000 on select |
| ATVs | Outlander 6x6, Outlander Electric | Not published on the pages we read | Up to $4,000 on select |
From can-am.brp.com US pages, retrieved 12 August 2026. All MSRPs apply to entry packages and exclude transportation and preparation fees, which Can-Am states may vary based on selection. Rebate eligibility is described as applying to select 2026 models — confirm with a dealer which specific units qualify. Where we have written not published, we mean we did not find a figure on the pages we read, not that none exists.
What we verified, and how to buy
1. Pricing is honest about being incomplete
The Defender HD11 page leads with starting at $22,699 and attaches, in the same breath, the qualification that this is MSRP on the entry package and that transportation and preparation fees may vary based on selection. In powersports those two charges — freight to the dealer and assembly and setup on arrival — are routinely four figures, and plenty of manufacturers leave a buyer to discover them at the desk. Saying it on the model page is the correct behaviour.
The same page carries a spread of package prices well above the entry figure, reaching into the high thirty thousands, which is a useful reminder of how these vehicles are actually sold: the headline number is the base of a range, and the trim you want is usually not the base. The electric motorcycles are the exception and the genuinely accessible end of the lineup — Pulse from $10,999 and Origin from $11,499, described on the site as new pricing, which suggests a repositioning rather than a temporary promotion.
On the promotions, a small piece of credit that has become notable by contrast. The Factory Sales event states that it runs until 30 September. After a run of reviews in which we found an Extended 4th of July Sale live in August and a mattress that has apparently never once sold at its list price, a dated deadline on a manufacturer rebate is a refreshing thing to be able to report. Whether it is extended in October is not something we can know, but as published it is a promotion with an end.
2. You are buying from a dealer, not from this link
Every path on the site leads to a dealership: Build & Price, Get a quote, Payment calculator, Get Loan Offers, Find a Dealer. That is how powersports works and it is not a criticism, but it has consequences for a buyer that a manufacturer website will never spell out. MSRP is an opening position. Freight and prep are added locally and vary. Documentation fees, accessories fitted at the dealership, extended warranties and financing are all separately negotiable and all separately profitable.
The defence is boring and effective: ask for an out-the-door price in writing, itemised, before you agree to anything. Negotiate the vehicle price and the finance as two separate conversations, because a good monthly payment can conceal a poor purchase price stretched over a longer term. Price the extended warranty as its own product against the up-to-five-years-of-warranty-and-protection framing on the site, and establish exactly what the base warranty covers before paying to extend it.
One specification we could not surface, and would want before buying, is rider and payload weight capacity. Every ATV and side-by-side has rated limits for occupants and cargo, and they matter for handling and for safety rather than merely for compliance. We did not find those figures on the pages we read — they sit in specification tabs that load separately — so rather than guess we would put it as a direct question to a dealer: what is the rated occupant and cargo capacity of this exact package, and where is that documented. Ask it plainly; it is a reasonable question and any competent salesperson can answer it.
3. Two things to check that have nothing to do with the vehicle
The first is licensing, and it catches people. Requirements for three-wheeled vehicles are set by each US state and they genuinely differ: some require a full motorcycle endorsement, some a three-wheel-specific endorsement or test, and some classify certain models as autocycles with different rules again, including on helmets. Do not take a dealer's summary of your state's rules as authoritative — check with the state licensing authority yourself, and ask specifically how the model you want is classified where you live.
The second is the advertiser's own description of the range, which we could not match. The affiliate material we were given describes Can-Am as offering cutting-edge electric bikes alongside its off-road and three-wheel vehicles. On the US site we found electric motorcycles — Pulse and Origin — and an Outlander Electric ATV, but no electric bicycles in the 2026 lineup. It may be that the copy means the motorcycles, or that a bicycle line has moved on since the description was written. Either way it is a reminder that programme descriptions are marketing material of uncertain vintage, not a catalogue.
For completeness on the health side: we are not going to claim this is exercise. Riding a heavy three-wheeled motorcycle or wrestling a side-by-side over rough terrain is physically demanding in a real sense, and time spent outdoors has genuine value for how people feel. But it is recreation, it is not resistance training, and it will not do for your lean mass what lifting something heavy twice a week does. If you are buying a vehicle, buy it because you want a vehicle.
In its favour
- Publishes MSRPs with the freight-and-prep caveat stated on the same line, rather than leaving it to the dealership.
- The Factory Sales promotion carries a real end date of 30 September, not a perpetual discount.
- Electric motorcycles at $10,999 and $11,499 are a genuinely lower-cost entry to the brand.
- Established manufacturer under a named parent, BRP, with a dealer network and up to five years of warranty and protection offered.
- Build & Price, quote requests, a payment calculator and loan pre-offers let you do most of the homework before a showroom visit.
- A clear, current model lineup with named packages, making it possible to research a specific unit.
Against it
- MSRP excludes transportation and preparation, so the advertised price is never the price you pay.
- Dealer-mediated pricing means no transparent out-the-door figure anywhere on the site.
- Rebates apply to select models only, with no published list of which units qualify.
- Three-wheel and ATV prices were not published on the pages we read, unlike the side-by-sides and electrics.
- We could not surface rider or payload weight capacities — a spec that matters and should be easier to find.
- The advertiser's description mentions electric bikes we could not find anywhere in the 2026 US lineup.
- Licensing for three-wheelers varies by state and is left for the buyer to establish.
- Entirely off-category for this site: a large discretionary purchase with no health benefit we would claim.
Our verdict: 3.9 out of 5
A credible manufacturer selling expensive machines honestly enough — and if you ride one, the medication conversation and the helmet check matter more than the spec sheet.
As a vehicle brand there is not much to complain about. Can-Am publishes MSRPs and attaches the freight-and-prep caveat in the same sentence rather than saving it for the finance office. Its current sale has an end date, which after the perpetual discounts we have documented this year reads as unusual restraint. The electric motorcycles at $10,999 and $11,499 are a real entry point rather than a halo product. And the buying tools — build and price, quotes, a payment calculator, pre-offers on finance — let you do the work before a salesperson is involved, which is where most of a buyer's leverage lives.
The limitations are the ordinary ones of dealer distribution. The published price is a floor rather than a figure. Freight and setup are added locally and vary. Rebates apply to select models with no published list of which. Three-wheel and ATV prices were not on the pages we read at all. And we could not find rider or payload weight capacity anywhere, which is a specification that affects handling and safety rather than paperwork, and ought to be a click away rather than a question for a showroom.
This site is about GLP-1 medication and a side-by-side is not, so the honest position is that we have nothing to tell you about whether you want one. What we do have is the part no product page covers. Dizziness and lightheadedness are recognised effects of these drugs and nausea is common, most sharply after starting and after each dose increase — which is a predictable pattern and therefore a plannable one. Do not ride in the days after an escalation that previously made you unwell, and treat feeling slightly wrong beforehand as sufficient reason to stay home. Being sick in a full-face helmet is a hazard in its own right.
The item that deserves a real conversation with a clinician is hypoglycaemia. On its own a GLP-1 rarely causes it; alongside insulin or a sulfonylurea it can, which is why those doses are so often reduced when one is added. Low blood sugar takes your judgement and coordination before it takes your certainty that anything is wrong, and that order of events is dangerous in a vehicle. If that combination is yours, raise riding specifically at your next appointment, eat before you ride, keep glucose where a gloved hand can reach it, and ride with someone.
Three-point-nine, and one instruction worth more than the rating. Before you spend $22,699 on a Defender, spend twenty minutes on your existing gear. A helmet sized to a face and neck twenty per cent larger may now rotate on your head, and a helmet that rotates does not do the job it was bought for; body armour positioned for a bigger torso may no longer sit over your shoulders and spine. Do the scalp-movement test with the strap fastened, check the armour while sitting in a riding position, and replace whatever has gone loose. It is the cheapest safety improvement available to you and the one that a year of weight loss has most likely quietly undone.
Frequently asked questions
What is Can-Am and what do they sell?
A powersports brand owned by the Canadian manufacturer BRP. The 2026 US lineup covers side-by-sides (Defender HD11, Maverick X3 X, Maverick R X rc), ATVs (Outlander 6x6, Outlander Electric), three-wheeled road vehicles (Spyder RT Sea-to-Sky, Spyder F3 Limited Special Series, Spyder F3-S) and two electric motorcycles (Pulse and Origin). It is a vehicle manufacturer with no health dimension at all; it appears on this site because it came through our affiliate queue, and the only genuinely useful thing we can add is about operating machinery while on a medication that can make you dizzy.
What do they cost?
Checked on the US site, 12 August 2026. The 2026 Defender HD11 starts at $22,699 MSRP on the entry package, with higher packages listed well above $37,000. The electric motorcycles are the cheapest way in: Can-Am Pulse from $10,999 and Can-Am Origin from $11,499. Note the wording attached to that MSRP — it applies to the entry package, and transportation and preparation fees vary by selection. In powersports those destination and setup charges are real money and are added by the dealer, so the advertised figure is not the drive-away figure.
Are there discounts running?
Yes, and they are dated rather than perpetual, which we note approvingly after a year of permanent sales. Can-Am's Factory Sales event runs until 30 September and advertises rebates of up to $4,000 on select 2026 ATVs and side-by-sides, and up to $3,500 on select 2026 three-wheel and electric motorcycles. Read select carefully — rebates on powersports vehicles are usually model- and package-specific, so ask a dealer which units actually qualify before you assume yours does.
Can I buy one online through this link?
Not the vehicle. Can-Am is a dealer-distributed brand: the site gives you Build & Price, Get a quote, a payment calculator, Get Loan Offers and Find a Dealer, and the transaction itself happens at a dealership where the final price, fees, trade-in and financing are all negotiated. What you can buy online is accessories, parts and riding gear. That is worth knowing because it means the published MSRP is an opening position, not a price.
Is it safe to ride one of these on a GLP-1?
For most people, with sensible precautions — but there are specific things to think about and they are not on any product page. Dizziness and lightheadedness are recognised side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, and nausea is very common, particularly in the weeks after starting or increasing a dose. Feeling suddenly faint is a different proposition on a 95-horsepower side-by-side or a three-wheeled motorcycle at highway speed than it is on a sofa. Do not ride during a dose escalation week if the previous ones made you unwell, and do not ride at all if you feel off before you set out.
What is the most serious risk to be aware of?
Low blood sugar, if you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside your GLP-1. A GLP-1 on its own rarely causes hypoglycaemia; combined with either of those it genuinely can, which is why prescribers often reduce those doses when starting one. Hypoglycaemia impairs judgement and coordination before you necessarily recognise it, and doing that while operating a vehicle off-road or in traffic is the real hazard in this review. If that combination applies to you, discuss riding specifically with your prescriber, eat before you ride, carry fast-acting glucose where you can reach it with gloves on, and do not ride alone.
Why does protective gear need re-checking?
Because it was fitted to a different body. If you have lost fifteen or twenty per cent of your body weight, a helmet that was snug may now rotate on your head, and a jacket with back and shoulder armour may sit with the armour no longer over the joints it was meant to cover. Loose protective equipment is meaningfully less protective — a helmet that moves does not manage impact the way a fitted one does. Re-check helmet fit by the usual test of whether it moves independently of your scalp, and check that armour still sits where it should when you are in a riding position rather than standing in a shop.
What about heat, hydration and long rides?
All three compound on these medications. Appetite suppression usually means drinking less as well as eating less, off-road riding in summer is hot and physically demanding work, and riding gear is designed to retain heat. Starting a long ride already under-hydrated and under-fuelled is how people get into trouble. Eat something before you set out even if you do not feel like it, carry more water than you think you need, and plan shorter stints with more stops than you would have done a year ago.
Do I need a special licence for a three-wheeled Can-Am?
Possibly, and it depends where you live. Licensing for three-wheeled vehicles is set at state level in the US and varies: some states require a full motorcycle endorsement, others a three-wheel-specific endorsement or a separate test, and a few treat them differently again. Check your own state's rules with its licensing authority before buying rather than relying on a dealer's summary, and ask whether the model you want is classed as an autocycle where you live, because that classification can change both the licence and the helmet requirement.
Get the out-the-door price in writing
If you are buying: use Build & Price first, ask for an itemised out-the-door figure including freight and prep, negotiate the vehicle and the finance separately, confirm which units qualify for the rebate before 30 September, check your state's three-wheel licensing yourself, and ask the dealer for the rated occupant and cargo capacity. Then check your helmet still fits. We earn 2%.

This is a review of a vehicle brand and is informational only. It is not medical advice and it is not rider training. Off-road vehicles and three-wheeled motorcycles can cause serious injury or death; read the operator's guide, complete recognised rider training, wear a certified helmet and appropriate protective equipment, and do not exceed rated occupant or cargo capacities. Only a clinician who knows your history can advise whether operating a vehicle is safe for you on your medication. Do not drive or ride if you feel dizzy, faint, nauseated or unwell. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside a GLP-1 receptor agonist you are at increased risk of hypoglycaemia and must discuss vehicle operation with your prescriber; hypoglycaemia impairs judgement and coordination. Never drink alcohol before riding. Licensing, helmet and registration requirements vary by state — confirm them with your state authority. Nothing here recommends starting, stopping or changing any medication, and no product described here treats any condition.

- Dizziness and lightheadedness are among the recognised adverse effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, and nausea and vomiting are among the most commonly reported, typically most pronounced following initiation and each dose escalation.
- GLP-1 receptor agonists stimulate insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner and carry a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone; that risk is materially increased in combination with insulin or a sulfonylurea, and product labelling advises considering a dose reduction of those agents. Hypoglycaemia impairs cognition, judgement and psychomotor performance, which is the basis for the vehicle-operation caution given above.
- Protective headgear relies on correct fit to manage impact energy; a helmet that rotates or moves independently of the head provides reduced protection. Body armour integrated into riding apparel must remain positioned over the joints it is designed to protect. Substantial changes in body size can affect both, which is the basis for the gear-refitting advice.

Limitations, stated plainly. We did not ride, test or purchase any vehicle, and we make no assessment of performance, reliability, build quality, ride comfort or dealer conduct. Our findings concern published prices, promotions, the model lineup and the disclosures attached to them. Prices for the three-wheel and ATV ranges were not present on the pages we read, and we have said so rather than sourcing them elsewhere. We could not locate rider or payload capacity figures and have deliberately quoted none. Because these vehicles are dealer-distributed, the final transaction price, fees and financing terms are set locally and nothing in this review predicts what you will be quoted. We could not reach independent review platforms. We did not contact Can-Am or BRP before publishing.
